1st Hour Friday's Blog

Hey Everybody!
I am sorry that I can't be with you there today. I am home with 2 sick kids and they both have Dr.'s appointments this morning. Hopefully everyone will be feeling better soon.
Blair--I thought you were scribing yesterday. Am I mistaken? I also have Laine down to scribe today. Please don't forget to do the survey and remember...your papers are due on Monday.
I am hoping to be live blogging tomorrow during your class period. As soon as I log in, I will post. If you have any questions regarding your semester projects, or your papers due on Monday, we can blog during class tomorrow. Talk to you tomorrow morning.

Laine's Scribe:

Hello everybody:
Today we met in the computer lab and were greeted by our substitute, Mrs. Mason. We then turned in any grade sheets with corrections and were told to read Mrs. Moritz’s blog page. Because Mrs. Moritz was actively bloging at home we could ask her any questions we had on the blog. For the rest of class we then worked on our final, semester long projects in the computer lab. Remember, our 1984 essays are due Monday and our student surveys need to be done today.

  • Mrs. Moritz, I won't be here on Monday, so I have my 1984 paper done...I will email it to your inbox in case I can't turn it in on Tuesday =] Jordan

  • Today in class we had a sub. We went to the computer lab to work on our semester long projects in our groups. We were also asked to take a survey that can be found on Mrs. Moritz’s web page under English 9 Honors in the 1984 calendar. Mrs. Moritz asked if we could check our grades and print the report if there are any errors. Don't forget our essays are due on Monday!
Sorry it didn't post the other day!

  • Hey Mrs. Moritz,
For the essay paper I chose the third option, the one where we are supposed to write about who controls us. I was wondering if we are supposed to relate it back to the book 1984? Like do we need any specific details from the book to use in this one?

    Thanks!

I hope your day goes better.

  • Hello Mrs. Moritz!

Sander and I discussed our project just now, and their group project is running much more smoothly, so we decided to continue to work on our projects individually like they were before.

    Any objections? :)

  • Hey Mrs. Moritz!

Sorry about the sleep deprivation. I will try and not overwhelm you with questions. :)

Ok, first: As far as the semester long project goes, do you want us to write about how 1984 relates to us as human beings or how it relates to the over-arching theme that we've chosen?

And second: If we're chosing to write a personal essay does it have to be in a specific format like we did with our social issues paper... or can we use the format we used for the "This I Believe" essay?

  • Hey Mrs. Moritz! Kaley Allison Ericka and I were wondering if we could go to the LMC lab to record our voices on the computer for our project, and I was wondering if we can go. the sub told me to ask you if its ok! Because we apparentsly cannot leave the room.
    Thanks! Shannon

  • Kaley-

Your essay does not have any requirements for you to connect it to the book. I guess if you can make specific connections that would be awesome. But ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY.

  • Julia--

If everyone is on board and things are getting done, then I am ok with it going back to the original groups. I would really like a response from Sean and Sander about their progress.

By Blogger mmoritz, at 6:47 AM

  • Rachel-

I want you to explain what Orwell was saying about human beings. What message was he trying to give us. Probably the same message Bradbury gave us with Fahrenheit! If it fits with your theme, that is great.

Personal essay is informal using first person pronouns. It does not have a specific structure. Oh, I promised you guys a rubric didn't I. I will try to post one before class is over.

  • Shannon--Aren't you in the lab??? Do you want to go to the classroon? I am o.k with that.

By Blogger mmoritz, at 6:54 AM

  • Thank you!! That was a great help!

  • Hey Moritz! Our group has basically finished what we can do with our presentation so we were wondering if we could go podcast what we are going to say.

By Blogger Kristen, at 6:57 AM

  • I was just wondering if for our project if we were to include Farewell to Manzanar? or do we just have to include 1984 and R&J?

By Blogger sbull, at 7:00 AM

  • Kristen--

Show the teacher this message. I am o.k. if you need to go to the classroom to podcast. Go by groups. Did you want to go somewhere else?

  • Getting ready to sign off. I will post a rubric here by the end of the day. I hope that helps. Have a fantastic weekend. I will see you on Monday. I will stay on for a few more minutes for any last questions.

  • Dangit, I misread your first post, Moritz. Oh well, I'll post this and hope you see it :) Is there any specifications for the essay as to what size font, any specific type of font, etc.?
